Day 7–New Delhi, 8th Dec

Day 2 in India, today’s plan was simple, no travelling, staying in Karol Bagh and finishing shopping for Neha, Pooja and Nita – girls gone wild shopping!

Woke up around 7:30, however did not get out of bed till 9, just fooling around with kids till then. Nita was feeling better today, although still not 100%. Had a work call around 9 today from Kahn, atleast unlike the last work call I was not in the toilet! The call required me to VPN into to work, following that, there was another lengthy work call with Ranjiv, requiring more VPNing and investigative stuff… soon I realised it was past 10 and I had not had shower or done anything.

It was rush time, for myself and Pooja, we were always the last! By the time we left our hotel it was 11. Had already missed breakfast, so decided to head to Raffles for late breakfast. (This is located above Anjlika Pastry Shop).

DSC01234

These place has lunch and dinner menu only; ordered Milk Shakes and Muffins for Kids, I had a coffee and Nita went for the Masala Tea, we also ordered a Chill Garlic Noodles. Kids loved their shakes, my coffee tasted very good and the Noodles were mind blowing, loved the chilli in it

Following our brunch, we visited the lower level pastry shop (Anjlika), heaven for Pastry lovers

(Anjlika Pastry Shop @ Karol Bagh)

It was now time to start some serious shopping – go my CHAMAK – CHALLO’s.
Was a long process visiting numerous shops, each store visit was close to an hour. Kids were getting tired along the way, however it was still better than walking continuously, it was more the sitting around in the stores that was driving them to boredom. We did manage to get a few kids outfits in between – which also lifted their spirits, however that was always short lived.
DSC01259DSC01262
(Neha waiting patiently for mummy to finish her selections, Pooja lying on the benches, bored)

Next was shopping for imitation jewellery. “Much More”(name of store) had a great range of jewellery, Nita and kids got very lucky there!

Lunch was late around 4pm, headed back to Raffles, ordered Butter Chicken, Veg Malai Kofta (Butter Chicken = happy kids, for me atleast).
DSC01269DSC01271
(the big menu @ Raffles)

Next was some shoe shopping for the girls. Along the way Pooja spotted an Indian Barbie @ a toy store!! Well both the girls wanted it so another barbie was added to their collection.

Shoes shoes and more shoes!! A mind boggling range – it confused the kids as well.

Headed back to the Hotel, needed to sort out the luggage for tomorrows travel to Amritsar.
Would only be taking 1 luggage case with us and leaving the rest behind, this would be our first train journey with kids in India, start of by travelling light.

Called it a early night, needed to catch the 6:40 train from New Delhi station.

Day 6–New Delhi, 7th Dec

Landed into Delhi at 12:30 am (7th Dec), getting out of the plane, we could smell India “bharat ki khusbhu”. Walking towards immigration, a cart was assisting an elderly lady and offered to give us a ride as well (Pooja was in my “GODI”), cool, we were one of the last to come off the plane, but taking the cart, we almost came to the front of the queue.

Delhi airport is quite impressive, compared to Mumbai (well the one I saw 5 years ago).
The immigration lady on the other hand was not that impressive, looking super tired and couldn’t care less of any one. Passed that without issue and off to buy some Alcohol for the relatives in Navsari.
Tip for anyone flying to India, buy your alcohol on arrivals in India, it is cheaper than other places (well Cheaper than Brisbane and Hong Kong)

Whilst waiting for luggage, got Nita to get our liquor permits for Gujurat, interestingly no one there knows anything about any such thing! Checked with customs, information desk and immigration, no one understood why we needed it!! Have let that pass for now.

Came out of customs with no issues, and so glad to see the guys from Swati hotel awaiting our arrival (thanks to Chetan for organising this, made it very easy for me)

Had to ask them to wait – needed to get myself a 3G USB Modem. Airtel booth was there and was able to organise this on the spot. The same thing would take 24hours if done outside of the airport!

Getting outside of the terminal, the weather was cool, however was surprised to see soo much SMOG at that time of the night @ 1.30am. The guys from the hotel had a small car and I had 3 bug luggage pieces, I offered to get a taxi as well, but they were confident the baggage would fit…. and too my astonishment, they made it fit – after lots of pushing and squeezing.

Out hotel – Swati Deluxe, is located in Karol Bhag, got there at close to 2 am, we promptly checked into the room. We also had an option for a mattress if required, however chose to go with the one KING size bed, it easily accommodated us all,  changed and were off to bed in no time.

Was good to get a good nights sleep, were up by 8am, had to warn the kids again and again of not drinking from the taps. Only use bottled water.
They were a bit scared of all these precautions, they were also amazed at the bathing methods, bucket of water rather than shower – the hotel did have a shower, however due to its height, we decided to use the Bucket system, explained to Kids how we used to bath this way in Fiji when we were young – this method definitely saves water – Neha actually preferred this.

Breakfast was in the restaurant next door. This is a great little place, a range of Dosa’s, Idli, cereals and other options which I did not try. Kids had cereal, myself and Nita went for Dosa’s – yummy Dosa for breakfast.

Back at the hotel after breakfast, Nita organised the bag of clothes requiring washing, most from the last 4 days in Hong Kong. Left that with the BOY on the floor, he assured us we should have that by 5 pm same day – and it was delivered accordingly.

Locked all baggage and headed out. Found out the nearest market was behind the hotel a mere 5 minutes walk.

Neha and Pooja were great, I guess we had forewarned them of what to expect in India, the dirt, poverty etc, but we were surprised on how well they were handling it. Although some comments they made were good, “Papa why is everyone using the car/bike horns soo much” had to explain on how they were warning others of their presence.

Had a short stroll through the markets and were already being haggled by many persons on coming to shops etc, Kids could not understand why sooo many people were approaching us to get into their stores, why were we so special!!

Found a good hair saloon, got Neha & Pooja in for a shampoo and cut, had promised Neha a hair cut to remove the crazy knots in her hair. She was soo excited to get her shampooing under way, and Pooja was not too far of, why should she be left out of the pampering
DSC01194DSC01197
(Neha and Pooja getting their hair shampooed & conditioned)

The hair cutting was next,

The final look
DSC01220DSC01221

Following that, we wanted to head off to Conought place for a good lunch. Took an Auto rickshaw to Conought Pl, this was the first time the kids rode that, and loved it. Again the beeping of horns was evident to them.

Once at Conought Pl, we made a quick round around a couple of blocks and came across QBA. Turned out to be one of the top Bar Restaurants in Delhi. Kids were in luck, they had Thai Red Curry on the menu. Food was awesome.
DSC01231
(Neha enjoying her Garlic Bread)

Back to Hotel after lunch, Nita was not feeling too well and having a bad headache with some stomach crams. Decided to stay @ hotel for the afternoon and take it easy. Around 6pm took the kids around to Karol Bagh markets to McDonalds(Nita was feeling a bit better but not 100%, so decided to rest the evening).  Kids had the standard nuggets and chips, I went for the Chilli Chicken wrap, loving the Indian menu. The BIG Mac here is next on my list, instead of beef they have two chicken patties!!
Ordered takeaway Chilli Paneer Wrap (@ McDonalds!!) for Nita, and on the way passed a Great pastry store “Anjlika”, this is as good as the cheesecake shops in Brisbane, but better. Got a Soufflé and Choc Brownie!!
Kids enjoyed avoiding oncoming bikes and scooters on the way back to hotel. Always finding something funny on the streets, we started counting the different types of horns we heard, Pooja tried to imitate the sounds of the crazy/funny ones. Pooja kept identifing poor kids on streets and how we had to give them the old clothes we brought with us.

Back at the hotel, the review for the Chilli Paneer Wrap was great, and the desserts were awesome.

Pooja and Neha played the rest of the night with the toys from Disney. Called it a night.

Day 5–Hong Kong, 6th Dec

Today was our final day, decided not to travel to Macau and just take it easy around Hong Kong. Checked with reception for a late checkout – apparently our travel agent had already done that during the initial booking –we had the room till 3 pm!

Breakfast was crap for me, felt like throwing up, lucky Bhavik (Doc) had stocked us well with all sorts of medication, took a tablet and was all fixed in an hour.
Kids and Nita did have a good breakfast – they finished off the yummy pancakes and were ready to head off.

Headed off towards Harbour City, a new designer label shopping mall, this was the best place to be on the last day, we could not afford anything, so I was safe – Nita was not going to increase the luggage!!

These locals are crazy, they were queued outside of the Chanel store……. queuing up to be ripped off!

Neha and Pooja wanted McDonalds, along getting that, we passed the Toy Story display, which revived their memories from the prior day at Disney….”Papa we would like to go there again”….. maybe soon

DSC01172

Pooja also had been crying for the Franck Doll, Rapunzel’s boyfriend (she had bought Rapunzel two days back and could not see her separated from Frank, so I had to separate with more of my money, damn expensive kids….. maybe it is my fault!!)

Lunch time, we went for an Italian  Buffet, first time I had a Buffet Italian. Food was very good. Highly recommended.
DSC01174DSC01177
(lady in window is hand rolling penne pasta!, what an effort)

Along the way to the hotel, we purchased a new Luggage Case to replace Nita’s aging bag which she brought with her after marriage!! It was all failing apart from the inside. It was cool moving in the streets with a big RED luggage case behind us and it was EMPTY.

Got back in the room @ 2:30 pm, and were in a frenzy to pack all the luggage. By 3 we were checked out and waiting for the Airport Express transfers. (HK transport is brilliant, a bus visits major hotels every 15 mins to collect passengers and luggage for free transport to Kowloon station for the Airport Express). Only had to wait 5 minutes outside the hotel before the transfer bus arrived. Was a sad feeling heading to Kowloon station, this was the end of a great HongKong holiday, have made a point of visiting this place again very soon, without Kids hopefully!!

Another surprise, got off @ Kowloon station and noticed they had a wall similar to the Airport Departures screen… looking at it closely, it was actually listing flight departures, looking further, there were a bank of CHECKIN counters, for the exclusive use of Airport Express passengers…. how cool was that, we checked in our baggage at Kowloon station and only had hand luggage with us!! Our boarding passes had all been issued there as well… all too easy and so convenient….. WAKE UP Australia, we are miles behind!!

Since we only had one hand luggage, we decided to visit the Elements mall above Kowloon Station, this is another designer label mall, people in HK must love their designer labels!

Soon after we boarded the train to the Airport, got off at Terminal 1. Wow what an airport, it is massive.

DSC01186DSC01185

And the food options must be the best of all the airports, even had a CAVIER bar at the Airport – not that I had any, it smelt like sh*t

Kids wanted McDonalds, I also opted for the same – tried their Spicy Chicken Burger – thumbs up!
There was also a Disney store at the airport near McDonalds, so obviously had to buy another toy!

After dinner we called home, letting Mum know where we were and how the girls were doing..Nita ended up talking to my Mum for more than 20 minutes.

Our departure gate was 33, had to take a maze of escalators to get down to the trains to take us from the Main Terminal to the Gates terminal.

Boarded the flight around 8:30pm, as we stepped on the plane, the steward (a guy wearing the PHAGRI) greeted us, Pooja blurted out “ Papa look his Indian” and then to him “ We are going to India”!! with the biggest grin, all the guy could do was smile and I did like wise.
We had been given the front row seats, so much leg room! Flying Jet Airways, I had set my expectations quite low, however I was happy to be proven wrong, their service and quality surpassed Cathay Pacific!!

Bye Hong Kong, it was an amazing experience, for all of us, hope to see you soon.

Back in the plane Neha and Pooja were loving the front seats with adjustable monitors, playing music, then switching to movies …. too many things happening on their screens.
Kids were served dinner first, Chicken Curry and Rice, Neha and Pooja finished the Chicken, Pooja went on to finish the rice, however for Neha that was it.
Lights were switched off soon after Dinner and the kids were fast asleep, and slept till 10 minutes before landing into Delhi.

Day 4–Hong Kong 5th Dec

The big day today, Neha and Pooja have been long waiting for this one – Disneyland!
Alarm went off at 7am, and for the first time, kids jumped out of bed as soon as I tried to wake them up (wonder why).
Quick shower and off to breakie – this was one day where I could blackmail Pooja into finishing her breakfast – Disney was on the line!! Finished off her pancakes with zero fuss … love the feeling when you have the upper hand.

Caught the MTR to Disney, which involved two train changes and all along it was are we there yet, are we there yet, excitment was building. Neha was reading the train maps and counting down the stations.
DSC00844
(Neha following our Progress on the MTR, Pooja getting the more excited)

Swtiched trains at Sunny Bay for the Disneyland Resort Line, they were super excited when they saw the disney train, with Mickey Windows, (Neha & Pooja said: Bhavik kaka was right, the train does have Mickey shaped windows!!). It was not just the kids, but Nita and I were also getting excited about getting to Disney, time to become kids again, we were after all going to the happiest place on earth!!
DSC00846DSC00848DSC00853

Disney has its own MTR station, now that is cool. The walk from the station to the entrance is not the shortest, it was however building up the excitement with posters of all the fun things to do in the park. We had made a deal with the kids and they repeated it to us on the way to the entrance, “Today Neha and Pooja are the bosses and Papa n Mum will do what we say!!”
DSC00859
(Kids leading the way to Disney – there were after all the bosses for the day!!)

Got to the Disney entrance, only to be told that our travel agent stuffed up the entracne vouchers, this took another 15 minutes to sort out – had to confirm with the travel company, finally at 10:45 we were in the park!!

DSC00862DSC00863

Neha had a park map and was quickly scanning through what we should be doing, I had to make a few suggestions which she accepted and led the way!!
On the way we came across Mickey and Mini Mouse, and also the famous Disney Castle, which Pooja started yelling about from the moment she saw it – “this is the same castle in the movies!”
DSC00866DSC00868

First up was Tomorrow Land DSC00872

Luckily the first ride in Tomorrow land had no queue and we were able to get thru quickly, it was not anything scary just a simple spacecraft going round  and round.
DSC00881

Next up, was the Space Rollercoaster, which again luckily had no queue, Neha got scared half way thru the line and backed off, she patiently waited outside for us. Pooja on the other hand is a brave soul. She was really daring and come out laughing!

DSC00884
(waiting for the space coaster)

Next was Fantasy Land and off to the famous Mickey awards show, featuring all famous Disney character in a mega awards ceremony, included, Mickey, Donald Duck, Goofy, Beauty and the Beast, Woody and Gang, Ariel Mermaid and more…
DSC00905DSC00941DSC00943DSC00954DSC00965DSC00968DSC00973DSC00977

Tea Cup ride was not too be missed, we all jumped into a giant tea cup and spun away
DSC00989DSC00991DSC00992
(Neha spinning the cup and Pooja being SPUN!!)

First damage of the day, did promise them some toys, this was the first of many
DSC00995

Next ride was the classic merry go around –
DSC01002DSC00999

It was already approaching 1 pm and kids were getting hungry, few food outlets around fantasy land, however all had the local foods which we did not really appreciate and did not appeal to us, headed back to Main Street, more walking, Pooja was already complaining about the walking she was doing and kept asking for “GODI”. On the way to Main Street, walked thru the famous Disney Castle,
DSC01003DSC01007DSC01018

Ate at a bakery, then went on to hire a stroller for Pooja. Luckily Pooja was not with me when hiring the stroller, the maximum weight for the stroller was 15kg, was asked to confirm this then pay $240HKD Deposit… was a bit nervous but am glad I did hire this. Stroller took her weight no problems, however Pooja felt embarrassed, being soo big in a stroller, she kept hiding behind her toys whenever she was sitting in it.
DSC01024 DSC01026

DSC01028DSC01032
Adventure Land was next – home to Tarzan and Lion King. Must be perfect timing, it was the last Lion King Life Festival show for the day, we walked straight in with no waits, show was very colourful, kids loved watching Simba’s life story being told.

DSC01040DSC01044DSC01049

Next was Tarzans Tree house, followed by Woody’s Toy Store Land.

DSC01059DSC01071DSC01076

Toy Story Land was long awaited however was the most tiring as well. There were three rides in this land, Slinky, Parachute Jump and the Speed racer ride. Two required us to wait for close to 45 minutes each. All along Pooja and Neha were getting very tired in the long queues. Kids ended up sitting on the corners of the queues and switching lanes when we came around.

Post the first slinky ride, we all come out excited however a bit tired from the long queue, decided to take a short break – ordered Cookies, and Ice Cream for the kids – well thats what I thought I ordered, did not notice that it was a frozen yoghurt stall!! It looked just like Ice Cream however no one liked it, including myself, in the bin!
DSC01090

The next was the speed racer, which was the scariest, both Pooja and Neha came along to this, it was lots of fun

DSC01094

The parachute jump was the last and the longest wait of all, must have been easily close to 1 hour. By the time this finished, it was getting dark and Disney @ nite had come alive. Disney does look prettier at night

DSC01095DSC01118DSC01127DSC01125DSC01133

Back at main street, kids headed for the Disney store for the promised toys. Decisions were hard, in the end they managed to stay within the allocated limits.

Out of the store, found a nice vantage point to see Mickey and his team come out for the nightly Christmas parade, which was followed by fireworks
DSC01138DSC01144

Called it a day & night at Disney and headed back to the MTR. Took some pics at the entrance waterfalls which looked spectacular at night.

DSC01146DSC01147DSC01159

Getting back to Tsim Sha Sui station (opp Holiday Inn hotel), we unloaded all the shopping back at the hotel and decided to visit GAYLOAD Indian restaurant again. Again they had the live singers, tonight the guy was coming out with the best Kishore Kumar hits. Ended requesting “Yeh lal rang”, and he sung it very well.
Kids did finish off their meals well, holding off opening the toys did pay dividends!!

Called it a night, the final night for us in Hong Kong, tomorrow would be our last day here.

Day 3–Hong Kong–4th Dec

Day 3, the plan was to visit the Big Buddha

Yesterday we went for buffet breakfast quite late and only had 20 minutes to complete it all, today decided not to shower the kids and headed to the buffet breakfast straight after Nita and I had showered. Lucky for that, Neha & Pooja got yummy waffles

DSC00664DSC00670
(breakfast time)

By the time we finished breakie and showered the kids, it was close to 11:30, also had to head back to GAYLORD (indian restaurant) to check if Pooja had forgotten her bag there – Luckily they kept it safe.

Took the MTR to Lantau Island, which took close to 40 minutes. Along the way we saw the disney train – which got the kids more excited for tomorrow.
DSC00672

Got out of the station and had to ask a couple of taxi drivers which way the cable car was to get to the NGONG PING (site of Big Buddha), realised it did not require a taxi, rather it was right behind the station we were at!!
Went that way to find a massive outlet shopping mall, CityGate Outlets, loads of shops and even more crazy shoppers, Nita got a nice pair of rockport shoes – in preparation for walking up the 100 Buddha steps!!

Next was the queue to get into the Cable Car, the queue was long and the time to get in would be close to 1.5 hrs, by the time we made the first turn in the queue, Pooja was whinging again on how tired she was.
Decided to take the coach to the NGONG PING which was empty and leaving in 15 minutes.
DSC00679DSC00680
(waiting for the coach, coach no)

Love the transport system here, used our Octopus cards to pay for the bus as well, infact I have seen people pay for the groceries with their Octopus cards at 7-11!!

Am glad we took the Coach option, we would have missed some very nice landscapes and hidden beaches on the South China Seas.
The scariest bits where the descents which were very steep, the driver did well, however I all along was having second thoughts on why I took the coach option. Neha on the other hand was enjoying it and calling it a roller coaster ride!!

DSC00686DSC00689

(view from the coach, and a dam we passed, interestingly the lower side of the dam is a correctional facility, I guess if an accident does occur these people are expendable – well it seems that way!)

The coach had us on the peak in around 40 minutes, stepping out, the feel of the place was very different – calm & peaceful without the hustle of the Hong Kong city.
We were all awestruck by the first view of the Buddha. Such a massive statue and so beautiful
 DSC00691DSC00693

Took a leisurely stroll through the gates along the pathway leading to the base of the steps leading to the Big Bhudda.

DSC00700DSC00705

Along the way, a crowd had formed around a cow, everyone was patting it, Neha & Pooja also joined in, Pooja went one step further grabbing the cows tail – luckily Nita was quick and got Pooja to release it, wonder how the cow felt after that!!

Looking at steps from the base, Neha & Pooja were both very eager to conquer the massive set of steps, however that enthusiasm was short lived, Pooja after the 2nd set was already asking to be picked up. Neha on the other hand was great and kept encouraging us all to continue and take it in small strides. She was announcing breaktimes at the end of each set of stairs (approx 14 steps), the breaks normally lasted for around 5 – 10 seconds and then off we went again.

DSC00717

Reaching the top felt great, Neha and Pooja were so proud of climbing the steps all by themselves. Seeing the Buddha was surreal, the pictures taken do not do justice to what you see there.

DSC00732DSC00737DSC00742

After a long stay up on the peak with Buddha, it was time to head down, walking down was soooo much easier.

DSC00752
(heading down the steps)

Heading back thru the village to catch the cable car back, again the same problem – the queue times were 75 minutes, there was a guy holding a sign at the end of the queue. Asked the guy what was the fastest way to go ahead – it was to purchase the slightly more expensive Crystal View tickets – did that and instantly we had pushed ahead by about 80 – 90 % of the queue.
Only realised what Crystal view was when we got in the cable car, its entire floor was made of glass, very cool, Kids loved that, myself and Nita were enjoying the sights around us and they were busy looking through the glass bottom floor.

DSC00786DSC00795
(notice the glass floor in the cable car)

Once back at base, we headed to a chinese restaurant in the CityGate mall for Dinner, turned out to be excellent food, so far we have had a good run with restaurants – no duds.

Took the MTR back to our hotel. Enroute, Pooja being too tired (not blaming her, we all were) nodded off. This would not have been a problem if the one train would take us all the way, unfortunately from the moment we switched train lines, we were standing and holding Pooja was proving a difficult task, half way thru Nita was able to find me one seat, felt so nice to take the weight off my hands and back.

Back at the hotel, compiling the blog, Nita had already nodded off, Pooja and Neha were wide awake fooling around. Around 9:30pm took the kids for some Ice Cream, Neha selected a Vanilla Tub, Pooja being the different one, had to pick a different ice cream with chinese characters all over it – we had no idea what it was, and after many failed attempts of convincing her to get something safer, she took that weird stuff. Just for backup, I bought an additional vanilla tub, and was that a lucky move. Her ice cream or what ever stuff that was tasted like crap – surprise surprise!

Kids are now in bed all excited for tomorrows Disney trip, infact so am I! (time for me to be a kid as well)

Day 2 – Hong Kong (over the jetlag– I think)–3rd Dec

We were (I think) over the jet lag, all woke up nice and early for a quick start to the day, however NO-ONE managed to get out of the beds!! Just kept talking to each other and soon we realised it was 9am – Nita pushed us all around till we were all showered and ready for another day.
The plan was to visit Hong Kong Peak and the evening was a boat cruise in Hong Kong Harbour.

To Hong Kong Peak
Took the MTR to Central Station – upon getting out of the station, we had our first glimpse of the HK city centre and high rises

DSC00483DSC00519DSC00484

We could not find a wash room near the MTR, so the next best thing – go into a designer label shopping centre

DSC00497DSC00516
(notice how Nita comes out empty handed…. no bargains in there lady!! tops were starting from a mere 4000 HKD!)

Only a short walk to Hong Kong Peak Tram Station, being a Saturday, seemed like half of Hong Kong were there to visit the peak, lucky the wait times were only around 45 minutes to get in the tram
DSC00520DSC00521
(waiting in the sun)

Boarded the train…..unfortunately the rush was such, that we did not get seats, had to stand, which would have been ok for normal trains, however not the most comfortable on ones going up a steep incline close to 45%!! Luckily, Neha and Pooja were offered seats by a very kind family.
DSC00535DSC00545
(Kids squashed on a small area, incline of train heading up)

The peak, one of the highest points in HK, was more like a small shopping town. Taking the escalators up the many levels of the sky tower, we say the very expansive views of the great city!!! just breathtaking
DSC00549DSC00551
This was all being made very more enjoyable by the clear weather –  zero cloud cover …. we were very lucky to get such a view.
View from the top was wow, HK does look sexy from the top!
DSC00563DSC00576
(I tried a panorama feature built into the camera, worked great except for the hand rail line)

Taking in the sights was godly for us, however not for the young ones, the whinging started soon after, time to head back in to sky tower for a quick lunch @ 3pm.
What was surprising is the number of small shops @ the place selling not souvenirs but normal HK stuff – including loads of electronics. Pooja (esp) & Neha started getting drawn to a couple of stores which offered things that would compensate for the lack of toys being sold!!! took some convincing to get them out of there and straight to this amazing Chinese Restaurant in the tower called “TIEN YI”, ordered a Sweet & Sour Chicken and Chicken Fried Rice with Brazilian stripped Chicken…. it was brilliant, one of the best we have had so far! (And the kids loved it)
DSC00586
(Tien Yi Chinese restaurant @ the peak)

It was a hasty exist from the Peak (3:45pm), had to be at he Kowloon Pier for a 6pm cruise departure. Walking back to central station from the Peak Tram station was not too bad, going downhill is sooooo muh easier.
Pooja and Neha were not giving us trouble at all considering the walking being done – they were just being worried about missing the cruise.
Time to get back to the hotel was quicker than I had anticipated, we had a spare 30 minutes to rest the kids and freshen up, then headed off to the Kowloon Pier – luckily it was only a 10 minute walk from the hotel – and soooo glad we took the walk, all the 5 star hotels are along the harbour and what a sight they are,
DSC00606DSC00609
(outside the Peninsula, definitely out of my budget)

At the Kowloon Pier, strangely there is no tour desk or any signage, the only information I had was to be at Pier No 3 – which was closed for renovation, asking around finally found someone who knew about the cruise and pointed us to Pier No 4.
DSC00624
View from the Pier, Hong Kong City at Dusk.

Finally the cruise boat arrived and what a let down it was, a small crappy boat with smell of diesel everywhere, looked in from outside and it would have to have the dodgiest food available on it, decided not to go on it.

Walked along the harbour walk, and came across a giant Toy Story stage, Pooja and Neha enjoyed going around that.
DSC00639 DSC00641
(I was suffering with Pooja on my shoulders)

Next to this was a massive mall called Harbour City, filled with branded shops, but the place was packed to the rafters with people –these people really like to spend some serious $$$. Neha and Pooja spotted Toys-r-us, ended up getting a Barbie for Pooja and Squinkies for Neha!

Finding a place to eat was proving difficult again, every restaurant we could eat in was super busy and the wait times were crazy. Decided to head back to the hotel to eat there!! However no luck there as well, the buffet wasn’t great – well not for us anyways. Waiter recommended a good Indian restaurant a short walk away,  decided to head there and with some asking around and taking a few wrong turns, finally got there, its name is to remember “GAYLORD

The first question the guy asked as we walked in “do you have a booking” and again my heart sank, oh no, not another full place, luckily this time around, they were able to accommodate us – only had to wait a couple of minutes.
This place is great, food was very good, plus they have live singers – they were great, made the night pass away very well. Downed a few beers, Neha & Pooja had there fav Butter Chicken, and we tried a veg Mirch Paneer Masala (A+).

(live singers right across our table, playing some excellent songs – Kabhi Kabhi, Humne Tumse Pyar Kitna, and many other great oldies)

Pooja was asleep by the time we finished, carrying her back was an effort, requiring lots of time-outs. Called it a night – Day 2 over.

Day 1–Hong Kong (a bit lost)

Settling back at the hotel – after a long long day plus a bit of jet lag.

Arrived into Hong Kong @ 7:30 am local time, even though we had no customs process and immigration was a breeze, it took us close to 1 hour to get out of the terminal….. being a massive airport , with lots of walking, legs just finally gave up saying ram ram !

Had to have a short break at the Arrivals area – girls were too tired and complaining of tired legs, coffee break to the rescue, also found out they had free Wifi access!
Following Nita’s friend instructions – we bought the MTR octupus cards (train family pass)
Train from the Airport to Kowloon took only 20 minutes, which also included transfers to hotels from Kowloon station!
Stepping out of the coach into the hotel – COLD Wind!!! was not expecting it to be that cold! Lucky Nita packed lots of skivvies for the girls.

First problem for the Day – hotel room was not ready! – left baggage at Hotel and started our Nathan Rd excursion.

Second problem – Nita had issues with the people smoking and the smog!! which I had no issues with.

Third problem – Kids were really getting cranky now and whinging – kept entertaining themselves by going thru Hong Kong visitors brochures looking for Disney  stuff, which was ok, however they were finding places where they could go for fun – one of the places a Christmas Ice Skating ring, this place we did visit.
Nathan Rd, is a very busy, lots and lots of shop and people everywhere, walked a few blocks and again the legs were giving up on us.
Found an Indian restaurant in the Miramar Towers, which the girls enjoyed quite a bit. Back to basics – Butter Chicken & Garlic Naan!!

Finally got our hotel room at 1pm, we all crashed, except for Pooja, who had slept all along in the flight and had no jetlag at all, she did very well at keeping me awake for most times.

6pm, we are out an about again, took the girls to the Xmas Ice Skating ring, luckily we did not have any major mishaps!

Finding a place to eat (which was edible for us!!) was proving very difficult – there is a food outlet every few meters, however finding one with no “pigs” hanging on the front windows is another matter. After searching long and hard & too tired, we got a cab back to the hotel for some Italian – a good move indeed.
DSC00426DSC00435Pizzas and Pastas were excellent. Highly recommended eat @ Osteria @ Holiday Inn.

Night was still young, well according to locals, so off we went to the night markets, Neha and Pooja managed to get couple of fake Gucci bags, Nita did what girls do best, buy shoes!!

Neha had issues with me bargaining – she noticed I bargained the price of her handbags down, so after the sale, Neha: “Papa you cheated, you paid less money” crazy kids, is there some issue with me spending less money!!!

Got the train back to Tsim Sha Tsui (station near out hotel), and called it a night around 11pm.

All packed up, only 6 hours to go

All bags packed, Nita is totally stressing out, and getting emotional –   our last day today for 2011 in Brisbane and in our home. Getting this strange feeling about leaving the house all empty for over a month.

Neha & Pooja are already at dadi’s place all very excited and wanting to get on the plane, will need to make sure they get some sleep – as tomorrow will be all non-stop HONG KONG.
